Beginning Mosaic Class
π¨ Discover the Art of Mosaics at the Machias Arts Center
Unleash your creativity this summer in a beginner-friendly workshop where youβll craft a beautiful mosaic cutting board using whole tilesβno cutting required!

Two-Class Series: July 10 & 17
β° Both sessions are required to complete your project.
In this hands-on series, you'll create a 5" x 11" mosaic on a wooden cutting board, learning the full process from planning to finishing. Whether you're inspired by geometric patterns, coastal scenes, or playful abstract designs, this class will give you the tools and guidance to bring your vision to life.
π§© What youβll learn:
- Design layout and planning techniques
- How to arrange and adhere whole tiles for balance and effect
- Grouting for texture and cohesion
- Finishing steps that protect and highlight your creation
π οΈ All materials provided: tiles, adhesive, grout, tools, safety gear, and your board. Youβll leave with a finished mosaic thatβs both functional and frame-worthyβand skills to keep creating.
β¨ Perfect for beginners and open to all levels. Great for individuals or friends looking for a creative way to connect!
Class size is limited, so register early! Total cost of the class is $75.00. A $25.00 non-refundable deposit is required on registration with the balance of $50 due before the start of the class.
Mosaic Class - Direct Method
Class is limited to 6 students.
Thursday September 4 and Thursday September 11 (You must attend both dates to complete your project)
Total cost of the class is $125.00. A $25.00 non-refundable deposit is required on registration with the balance of $100 due before the start of the class.
Direct method mosaic class β 2 sessions (must attend both sessions to complete project)
First class June 26th β 3 hours
Students to bring with them an 8β x 10β simplistic design or pattern, I will also have a selection of designs they can use.
Items supplied:
8β x 10β board
Tiles
Adhesive
Loan of tile cutters
Loan of tweezers
Lesson includes preparation of board, application of design, cutting techniques and placement of tiles and best practices.
Homework β students will take the project, tiles, cutters and glue home with them and have it completed 24 hours before the next session.
Second class July 3 β 2 hours (students must return cutters and tweezers and any unused tiles)

Grout powder
Mixing container
Rinsing container
Sponges
Disposable apron
Disposable gloves
Lesson includes grouting project and clean up. (Instructions given on how to do final clean at home 24 hours after the grout has dried).
